Merchant Warehouse Lends a Hand on Corporate Volunteer Day Date: May 16, 2009
On May 16th, 2009, 24 Merchant Warehouse employees volunteered their time and hard work for Corporate Volunteer Day, held at the Casa Nueva Vida, a shelter for women and children in Jamaica Plain, MA.
These volunteers helped to transform the outdoor play areas at the shelter, which houses 18 families who are in transition to affordable housing and provides educational opportunities, vocational training, ESL classes, and assistance with obtaining housing.
Merchant Warehouse completely renovated the basketball area and the grounds surrounding it by scraping fences and then giving everything a fresh new coat of paint. In addition, they re-painted and ehnanced a map of the world in the driveway and created new areas with four square and hop-scotch for the children to play. In one of the biggest (and fastest) accomplishments, Merchant Warehouse employees also created a large "Caution" sign at the front of the driveway to warn those entering the premises that children are at play in the area. By the end of the day, there was a vast improvement to the grounds and the work accomplished truly made a difference in the lives of these families.
