Company honored by Boston Cares for its philanthropic generosity, green initiatives

Merchant Warehouse, a premier provider of merchant services and credit card processing solutions has been awarded the 2009 Corporate Friendship Award by Boston Cares, a non-profit organization that creates and leads team-oriented volunteer opportunities and services within Greater Boston. Given annually to one corporation within the state of Massachusetts, Merchant Warehouse was chosen as this year's recipient for its deep involvement in local volunteering and charitable organizations. The award presentation took place at Boston Cares' Sixth Annual Awards reception on April 21st.

Accepting the award on behalf of Merchant Warehouse and its nearly 130 Merchant Warehouse employees was Sarah-Beth Chester, Manager of Corporate Philanthropy and Green Initiatives at Merchant Warehouse, who spearheads the company's community involvement outreach and who herself, commits innumerable hours to volunteering with a number of organizations throughout the Boston area.

Merchant Warehouse was recognized by Boston Cares for its participation in Frosty Friends, the Corporate Challenge, Habitat for Humanity and the Boston Food Bank. Additionally, each Friday the company collects money internally, with a 100 percent contribution rate, from its employees with its proceeds going to a charity nominated and agreed on by the Merchant Warehouse employees.

"Merchant Warehouse, from its very inception, has always strived to give back to our community and the people within it," said Henry Helgeson, president and co-CEO of Merchant Warehouse. "While we have always been proud of the time we volunteer and the money we contribute, this award highlights our team for its involvement and willingness to put others before ourselves."

"The Corporate Friendship Award has given us all a moment to pause and think back at all the good we've done, but not one employee of Merchant Warehouse will rest with this award," said Sarah-Beth Chester. "We'll be out there volunteering and contributing all we can tomorrow, and the next day and the days that follow. Merchant Warehouse has always been and will continue to be committed to providing a better way of life for its employees and community."

Boston Cares organizes and leads team-oriented volunteer opportunities and services in and around Boston that have a positive impact on individuals and communities.
